Frequently Asked Questions
Who else will be attending the program?
Typically, short programs will host one participant while extended programs will host two. However, the number of participants varies per the uniqueness of each program.
How long is my program?
Each program varies in length. They can last from five days to two months. As more programs become available through the SSF, prospective participants will find a variety of “short” and “long” term programs.
What steps does the SSF take to keep my program safe?
During training, participants are provided with safety procedures that will help them take precautions while attending the program. Participants will also be paired with an SSF Host Mom. Our host mom will be the participant’s go-to person in any situation while on the program. She will be there for any questions and supplemental support throughout the participant’s stay. Depending on the program, we may provide traveling health insurance.
How much money should I bring?
For all programs, Major travel expenses are covered – airfare, housing, program fees. Other expenses may be covered as well, and those will be made specifically known for each program. Other expenses, like food, are covered by the participant. Souvenir money and money for any sight-seeing or tourist activities are up to the participant. Keep in mind the duration of the program.
What if I get lost?
This scenario is unlikely as the host will be handling transportation throughout the program. The participant will be informed of the manner of travel she will be taking to and from her chosen program during orientation. She will have her host mom’s contact information who will be able to help her in the event of an emergency.
What happens in case of a medical emergency?
In the event of a medical emergency, the participant will be sent to the nearest hospital as noted in the welcome package.
Where will I be living?
SSF participants will be provided a multi-bedroom AirBnB that is in a reasonable proximity to the program location. The host mom will be staying on site as well in her own private room. The participant will share common living spaces with the host. Accommodations can vary program to program.
Should I be concerned about public transportation?
The host handles transportation so the participant will not have to use public transportation unless she so chooses. Please refer to the welcome package for safety guidelines and more specific requirements regarding public transportation in the specified area of the program.
What if I get lost at the airport?
Our host mom will meet the participant at the airport upon arrival. She will be holding SSF signage and waiting at/near the baggage claim.
Who is my host mom?
Our host is a woman who has been trained by our Culture Committee using a curated mentor program specially designed to support and provide mentorship for each participant for the duration of their stay.
